Management Accountant jobs

A chartered Management Accountant role combines accounting skills with business management skills and the role involves analysing the performance of the business and advising on how to pre-empt problems, adapt to changing circumstances and improve value.
Management Accountants skills are often used to provide the financial information necessary for the planning and financial protection of organisations in the public and private sectors. A Management Accountant will establish and maintain financial policies and management information systems, as well as liaising with management colleagues on all aspects of finance.
Chartered Management Accountants look to the future (rather than the past, as in with Auditor jobs). They may work in a finance function or within specialist departments providing financial advice and information to support strategic business decision-making and control. The role can vary depending on the management structure and the size of the company, for example there may be some openings in large firms in a business advisory role. A Management Accountant must therefore possess the ability to manage change, have experience of staff management and liaising with non-finance managers. You will need to be positive and determined yet sensitive and responsive to different business cultures.

Typical work activities include:
• Providing accurate and timely management information.
• Acting as a main point of contact with members of the sales department and other members of planning and analysis.
• Accurately reflecting the volumes and revenue on a weekly basis.
• Writing weekly budget points and compiling reconciliations to explain actual   results and variances from either budget or forecast.
• Attendance at weekly financial planning and analysis meetings, to explain the week’s numbers.
• Monitoring and controlling overhead expenditure within different business units.
• Preparation of annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts.
• Ad hoc costings for new operational initiatives.
