Financial Director jobs

The Financial Director oversees and directs all of the financial activities, to include the preparation of current financial reports and forecasts for future business growth. Depending on the size of the company this job title may also vary and could be Financial Manager or Financial Analyst for example. In smaller companies the Finance Director role will be a bit more hands on and cover general accounts matter. In a bigger company the role is often more strategic and involves a lot of analysis, you may find you will be a finance director for a division rather than for a whole company and the role will involve regular travel between all the different sites possibly Internationally.

The Finance Director supports the Board in the preparation of all budgets and financial reports, contributing to the achievement of the company objectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategy. The Finance Director is also tasked with driving the business forward through commercial acumen and advice. They will be tasked with ensuring that everyone understands what the budgets are so as they know what they can spend, how the company is performing and what needs to be achieved in the future to steer the company toward a common goal.

You will work closely with all departments of the business to help them plan and manage their budgets and may also work closely with the CEO acting as a sounding board for the company.

Typical work activities include:

·         Monitoring business performance meeting with the Board of Directors regularly to keep them informed and offer direction

·         Acting as a sounding board for the board of Directors and Senior company Executives

·         Monitoring cash flow with significant use of external and internal metrics.

·         Reviewing reports and analysing projections of sales and income against actual figures and suggest methods of improving the planning process

·         Working with departments and teams

·         Supervising your own accounts team

·         Preparing accounts and in conjunction with the Board, assessing the long term financial trends and reviewing prospects for future growth of income and new product areas.

·         Developing financial models in order to drive the company to a profitable success

·         Planning for the future

·         Competitor analysis

·         Strategic planning

Relevant skills required for a Finance Director role:

·         Qualified Accountant

·         Significant managerial experience

·         Senior level experience of managing financial operations

·         Senior level of corporate governance.

·         Legal experience is sometimes advantageous.
