We found ourselves in the unusual position of needing to fill two roles with qualified staff in a short space of time. We have engaged Martin Ward Anderson on two very different assignments in the last few months.

The initial relationship was built around filling a newly qualified accountant role in London. Due to the competitive market for newly qualified accountants in London and our wish to get someone with significant headroom, this was a potentially difficult assignment. Martin Ward Anderson spent time understanding our requirements, appreciating the kind of organisation William Hill is and consequently fed through good candidates with not only the requisite skills but also the correct personality fit.

The second assignment was for a more senior interim manager role in our Leeds office. This job was handled by Martin Ward Anderson Manchester office, and I was pleasantly surprised, by the seamless transfer of service from one office to another. Again, Martin Ward Anderson quickly grasped the role’s issues and requirements and once more sourced well-prepared, suitable candidates for interview. The feedback throughout the process was excellent and ensured that we got the best person for the job.

Based on my experiences with Martin Ward Anderson, I would have no hesitation in using them again or in recommending them to other organisations.

Having been a Finance Director for a number of years I have had a lot of contact with many recruitment companies and consultants as both a client and a candidate.

As a client I have experienced a number of frustrations centred around a lack of understanding of the business for which they are recruiting and a failure to truly understand the needs of the specific role. Consequently I have regularly been presented with unsuitable and/or badly prepared candidates.

From a candidate perspective I have frequently been disappointed by the service I have received, often feeling that the process is being run like a conveyer belt with an emphasis on getting meetings/interviews over with as soon as possible. The ‘norm’ seems to be limited contact with minimal, if any follow up. In the worst instances, any follow up is in the form of an inappropriate role (such as a credit controller!). In contrast my experience with Martin Ward Anderson has had none of these frustrations.

From a client perspective they have sought to understand the needs of the business and the roles to be filled. My current role is the result of some lateral thinking on their part when presented with a vacancy that, at first glance, I may have been overlooked for. But, by putting the role in the context of the wider business it was actually a good ‘fit’.

As a candidate I have been impressed by Martin Ward Anderson approach. At my initial meeting I met a number of their consultants with a view to them understanding what I had to offer and what it was I wanted. I was assured that my details would be shared with other offices (a pretty hollow undertaking in my experience) but, to my surprise I got a call from a consultant in another office a week or so later regarding an interim role which I accepted.

In addition, Martin Ward Anderson do make an effort to keep in touch and find out how things are going. I have regular contact with the consultant that placed me as well as meeting with others at regular ‘social evenings’ that Martin Ward Anderson organise which also afford the opportunity to meet with other candidates.
